The Taliban-led government of Afghanistan plans to appoint an ambassador to Russia in the near future. This was announced by Taliban Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hafiz Zia Ahmad following a meeting between Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Russia’s Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov.
“The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for Russia’s recent decision to remove the Taliban movement from the list of banned organizations,” Zia Ahmad wrote on X. He added, “The Minister also thanked the Russian Federation for agreeing to accept a diplomat at the ambassadorial level and pledged to nominate an envoy to Moscow soon.”
