Representatives of the radical Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation) that seized power in Afghanistan have not received an invitation to the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to be held in Samarkand on September 16-17. This was reported by the Afghan TV channel TOLOnews on Tuesday.
In this regard, Bilal Karimi, deputy representative of the new Afghan authorities, said that the "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan" (the name the Taliban uses for the state) "has always had good relations with SCO members." "We hope that this summit will bring good results, through negotiations and diplomacy, there will be progress on issues concerning the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan," he said.
The SCO is an international organization founded in 2001, and its members include China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia are observer countries, while Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Turkey are partner countries.
