Taliban suspends Swedish missions in Afghanistan over Quran desecration

11 July 2023

The Taliban (banned in Russia) has announced the suspension of Swedish missions in Afghanistan until Stockholm issues an apology to Muslims in response to the desecration of the Quran. Zabiullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the radical Taliban movement, which recently seized power in the country, made the announcement on Twitter.

In his message, Mujahid stated, "Following the desecration of the holy Quran and the Muslim faith in Sweden, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the name used by the Taliban - TASS) is suspending all Swedish activities on Afghan territory until they apologize to Muslims for this heinous act."

Moreover, the Taliban has urged other Muslim countries to reassess their engagement with Stockholm, highlighting the need for solidarity and support in the face of such offensive actions.
