Tashkent to Host Major CIS and SCO Conference on Combating Terrorism

The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will gather in Tashkent for a large-scale conference focused on countering terrorism and extremism in today's world. The event, organized by the CIS Anti-Terrorist Center (ATC), will mark the first time Uzbekistan's capital will jointly host the CIS Conference on Combating Terrorism and Extremism alongside the Scientific and Practical Conference of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS).

 

The conference will see participation from representatives of competent bodies from 20 CIS and SCO member states, including 9 working structures from CIS bodies and 2 from SCO bodies. Additionally, representatives from 10 authorized bodies of 6 international organizations and 22 research and educational institutions from CIS and SCO countries will attend.

 

The ATC press service informed TASS that the event will facilitate an exchange of national experiences in combating terrorism and extremism. Participants will discuss international counter-terrorism cooperation and explore ways to enhance scientific and educational support for anti-terrorism efforts.

 

The event has been organized by the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan, ATC CIS, and RATS SCO.

 

Scheduled for September 4 and 5, the conference will also feature the final two stages of the joint anti-terrorist exercise “Vostok-Antiterror — 2024,” conducted by the competent authorities of CIS member states. The final stage of these exercises, involving special forces, will be held in Uzbekistan for the first time.
