Iran expects that Russia will take Iran’s interests into account when engaging in any negotiations with the United States, according to Abbas Moghtadaei, Deputy Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee.
In an interview with Didban Iran, Moghtadaei highlighted Iran’s long-term strategic partnerships with Russia and China, noting that these countries consistently respect the interests of their allies in their foreign policy dealings. He expressedi confidence that Russia would do the same when talking to Washington.
Moghtadaei also dismissed the idea that discussions between Russia and the US over Ukraine could pose any threat to Iran, saying Iran’s global position is in no way comparable to Ukraine’s. "Ukraine is a dependent country that has aligned itself with the West and seeks NATO membership, but even that hasn’t been granted," he added.
This comes after Bloomberg reported, citing sources, that Moscow had allegedly offered to assist Washington in talks with Tehran.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reaffirmed that Iran remains a close ally of Russia, and Moscow sees potential for a peaceful resolution to concerns over Iran’s nuclear program. Peskov stressed that Russia is ready to do its part to facilitate such a resolution.
