01 June 2021

Authorities in Uzbekistan received the third batch of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, the press service of the republic's Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Service reported on Tuesday.

"The third batch of the Sputnik V vaccine has been delivered to Uzbekistan," the service said in a Telegram message.

The SES notes that this is the first component of the drug.

Earlier, Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin in Kazan asked Moscow to increase supplies of Sputnik V and consider its production in the republic. Later, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko told RIA Novosti that the sides have agreed to localize the production of the vaccine and the Uzbek side has already selected a site for the production of the drug.

Since April 1, Uzbekistan has launched a campaign to vaccinate the population against the coronavirus. Now Uzbeks are also vaccinated with AstraZeneca, a recombinant preparation of Chinese Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutica. More than 1.3 million people in the country have already been vaccinated.
