The last of three military transport planes with citizens evacuated from Afghanistan has landed at the Chkalovsky airfield, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Thursday.

"Three military transport aircraft IL-76 of the Russian Defense Ministry, involved in the evacuation of citizens from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, landed at the Chkalovsky airfield in Moscow Region," the military department said. The Defense Ministry added that the passengers are already passing through customs and anti-COVID control.

Three Il-76 transported to Russia more than 200 citizens of the Russian Federation and Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Education and Science earlier reported that, in particular, the first group of Afghan students studying at Russian universities arrived in Russia.

The evacuation of citizens of Russia, CSTO member states and Afghanistan by military transport aircraft from Afghanistan was organized by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
