Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated his compatriots on Friday on the state holiday, Independence Day. The country's leader noted that the republic has entered a new stage of its modernization, which requires hard work from residents.
"Independence is the highest treasure, we all have a duty to cherish it as the apple of our eyes. Protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country is our sacred duty. This has been a pivotal year for our nation. We have faced unprecedented internal and external challenges, but thanks to our unity and solidarity, we are confidently overcoming all of them. Having launched large-scale political and economic reforms, we have entered a new stage of modernization of the country. The success of these undertakings depends on each of us," Tokayev said in a congratulatory message published by his press service.
He stressed that the further successful development of the country is the main task facing its citizens. "To fulfill it, we must work hard. Only in this way will Kazakhstan become a strong state," the president noted.
Independence Day was formerly celebrated as a national holiday, but in June Tokayev proposed returning Republic Day, which used to be celebrated October 25. At the end of September, he approved relevant amendments to the legislation.
