Kazakh president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked Russian president Vladimir Putin for his help during the coronavirus pandemic during the plenary session of the 17th Forum of interregional cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia, which is being held online Thursday.

"I would like to express my gratitude to you, dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, for the assistance provided to our country during the initial period of the spread of the epidemic. Russia supplied medicines free of charge, provided test systems, and rendered effective assistance in evacuating Kazakh citizens," Tokayev said, addressing Putin.

He reminded that for several weeks, Russian doctors have been working shoulder to shoulder with their Kazakh colleagues in the most difficult regions, honorably fulfilling their professional duty and sharing their experience and knowledge. "A separate important stage in our cooperation during that period was the launch of production of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V at the Karaganda pharmaceutical complex, in fulfillment of a personal agreement between me and you. All this confirmed that Russia is a strategic partner, an ally of Kazakhstan," the president of Kazakhstan stressed.
