Trump has threatened a thousand times larger response to any attack from Iran

President of the United States Donald Trump has threatened to give a thousand times larger response to any attack from Iran, which may be taken in retaliation for the murder of the commander of the "al-Quds" special forces  of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Iranian armed forces) Qasem Soleimani. The American leader posted the corresponding message on his Twitter page.

"According to media reports, Iran may be preparing an assassination or other attack on the US in retaliation for the murder of terrorist leader Soleimani," he wrote. "Any attack on the United States by Iran in any form will be answered in the form of an attack on Iran that will be a thousand times larger," Trump added.

On Sunday, the Politico, citing representatives of US intelligence agencies, published information that the Iranian authorities are considering the possibility of organizing an attempt on the American Ambassador to South Africa Lana Marks as a response to the murder of Qasem Soleimani. According to these data, US intelligence has been aware of the threat against the Ambassador since the spring, but in the last few weeks more specific information has emerged about the impending attack.

As US Secretary of state Michael Pompeo said on Fox News on Monday, the United States takes this publication with due seriousness.

In turn, the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said Khatibzadeh called the statement of the  Politico baseless, noting that it is part of the"information campaign of the government of Donald Trump against Iran."

The commander of the "al-Quds" special forces of IRGC Qasem Soleimani was killed on the night of January 3 as a result of a US missile strike near the Baghdad airport. In response, on the night of January 8, Tehran launched a missile attack on two sites in Iraq used by the US military-the Ayn al-Asad base and the airport in the city of Erbil.
