Turkey Actively Extradites Persons Wanted by Russia

24 July

Turkey has started actively extraditing individuals sought by Russian law enforcement, as announced by Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov during a meeting in Bishkek with Turkish Supreme Court of Appeals Prosecutor General Muhsin Senturk.

Krasnov highlighted the effective working relationship between the law enforcement agencies of Russia and Turkey, attributing the success to high-level personal contacts. "Persons wanted at the request of Russian law enforcement agencies have started to be extradited actively from Turkey. I fully share such a practice-oriented, non-politicized approach, which emphasizes our commitment to the principle of inevitability of punishment for criminals," he said.

Krasnov also congratulated Senturk on his appointment and emphasized the strong relations between the Russian and Turkish presidents, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which have bolstered multifaceted, mutually beneficial cooperation.

He underscored the shared commitment of Russia and Turkey to countering extremist and terrorist threats, spreading extremist ideologies, and combating other serious crimes, including those facilitated by information and communication technologies. "Practice shows that the effectiveness of suppression of these criminal manifestations noticeably increases in case of application of consolidated efforts of many countries," Krasnov noted.

Krasnov proposed further strengthening cooperation by signing a memorandum of cooperation between the University of the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation and the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Turkey. He suggested initiating the first exchange of prosecutors for advanced training in 2025.

Senturk, in turn, emphasized Turkey's long-standing fight against terrorist organizations since 1975. He highlighted the necessity of maintaining cooperation between the two countries to build comprehensive security measures. He also expressed gratitude for Russia's warning about an assassination attempt on Turkey's current political regime on July 15, 2016, and stressed the importance of developing stable, warm, and mutually beneficial bilateral relations to serve both nations' interests.
