Turkey and Turkmenistan are considering the prospect of Turkmen gas supplies to Turkey via Iran, as discussed in a meeting of the Turkmenistan-Turkey intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation held in Ashgabat, as reported by the official newspaper Neytralny Turkmenistan.
The parties explored the potential of supplying Turkmen natural gas to the Turkish market, highlighting the relevance of a project involving gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Turkey through Iran. The participants acknowledged that the gas transportation infrastructure developed by Turkmenistan in recent years provides ample opportunities to export natural gas in substantial volumes to the west.
Agreeing on the project's promising nature, the participants decided to initiate negotiations at the level of relevant agencies and companies in the near future.
