Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that Istanbul remains the only venue where Russia and Ukraine managed to discuss a possible settlement and that Ankara is ready to revive the negotiation process.
“The Russian-Ukrainian war is one of the most difficult challenges our region has ever faced. From the very first day, our position has been clear: in war, there are no winners, and in a just peace, there are no losers,” Fidan said at the opening of Turkey’s annual Ambassadors Conference in Ankara.
“Guided by this conviction, we have been the country that made the most determined efforts to end the war through diplomacy. Istanbul remains the only platform so far where both sides were able to meet at a technical level and discuss the parameters of a peaceful settlement,” the minister noted.
He added that holding talks in Turkey “is a sign of the trust placed in Turkish diplomacy.” “Turkey stands ready to take part in any initiative, play a facilitating role, and restore the negotiation platform to help bring the war to an end through diplomatic means,” Fidan concluded.
