Turkey to make efforts to resolve Ukrainian crisis as soon as possible

08 August 2022

Turkey is in favor of the soonest and fair settlement of the Ukrainian crisis and will make the necessary efforts for this, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Monday in Ankara at the opening of Turkey's Annual Ambassadors Conference.

According to Cavusoglu, "Turkey is in favor of the earliest possible cessation" of hostilities in Ukraine and "achieving a lasting and just peace." "<...> We will continue our efforts for it [the conflict situation in Ukraine] to end as soon as possible. It is necessary to think now in cold blood about creating a new European security architecture. Turkey is making appropriate preparations for this," the minister said.

The Turkish foreign minister recalled that Ankara closed the Bosphorus Strait for the passage of warships to the Black Sea with the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine. "We invoked Article 19 of the Montreux Convention, which prevented military tension in the Black Sea basin. The Black Sea is our common home, we need to protect our common interests," the Turkish minister said.
