Turkey's ministry of national defense reported on Wednesday the successful neutralization of a previously discovered floating mine in the Black Sea.
"The mine discovered near Kefken Island was successfully neutralized by underwater defense units," the Turkish defense ministry said in a distributed statement.
This is the third time floating mines have been found off Turkey's coast. In late March, two were found near the Bosphorus Strait and the maritime border with Bulgaria. At the same time, the Turkish defense ministry announced that it was placing minesweepers and patrol aircraft on high alert.
On March 19, the FSB Public Relations Center (PRC) reported that mines planted by the Ukrainian Navy on approaches to ports in the Black Sea could drift toward the Bosporus due to broken cables.
