The Turkish military has undertaken a series of four air operations in northern Iraq and Syria since January 12, targeting facilities associated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), a group banned and designated as a terrorist organization by Ankara. The operations resulted in the destruction of more than 100 militant targets, including shelters, weapons and ammunition depots, oil storage facilities, and other infrastructure, as reported by the Milliyet newspaper.
According to it, the Turkish military claims to have eliminated at least 74 PKK militants, including key figures within the group's leadership. However, the actual number of casualties may be higher than reported.
The operations involved not only the Turkish Air Force but also the National Intelligence Service, which conducted drone strikes, eliminating 23 PKK facilities in Syria alone.
The military actions in Iraq and Syria were initiated in response to a PKK attack on a Turkish military post in northern Iraq on January 12, resulting in the deaths of nine servicemen.
