Turkmen Foreign Minister Discusses Caspian Issues with Lavrov

28 August

Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov said he discussed Caspian Sea matters with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, noting that regional countries will address these issues in the near future.

The diplomat emphasized that Ashgabat and Moscow are working closely to strengthen regional cooperation frameworks.

“The ‘Central Asia + Russia’ format is preparing for its second summit of leaders this October in Tajikistan. We had a detailed discussion on Caspian issues, which Turkmenistan, Russia, and their neighbors will tackle together very soon,” Meredov said following talks with Lavrov.

Meredov met with Lavrov in Moscow on Thursday. They reviewed key topics in Russia-Turkmenistan political, trade, economic and cultural relations, and exchanged views on international and regional challenges.

Lavrov maintains regular contact with his Turkmen counterpart. Their previous meeting was on June 25 during Lavrov’s visit to Ashgabat, where they signed a cooperation program between their foreign ministries for 2025–2026 and discussed a broad range of issues.
