Turkmen President thanked Russia for supplying COVID-19 vaccines

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov thanked Russia for developing a coronavirus vaccine and supplying it to Turkmenistan during talks Monday with Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov, who arrived in Ashgabat on a visit, Turkmen TV reported.


"The Turkmen leader noted the success of Russian scientists in developing the coronavirus vaccine and thanked the Russian side for supplying it to Turkmenistan," the report said.


Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also expressed condolences to the President of Tatarstan in connection with the tragedy that happened at school No. 175 in Kazan, which caused numerous human casualties. In turn, Rustam Minnikhanov expressed his condolences to the President on the death of his father, Malikguly Berdimuhamedov.


During the talks, the sides also discussed issues of cooperation of Turkmenistan with the companies of Tatarstan - OJSC "Kamaz", Kazan Helicopter Plant, "Tatneft" and KER-Holding.


According to official reports from Ashgabat, Russian vaccines Sputnik V and EpiVacCorona have been registered in Turkmenistan and delivered to the country.


The Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine has already been approved in 65 countries with a total population of over 3.2 billion people. Sputnik V has the second highest number of approvals by state regulators in the world. The effectiveness of the vaccine was 97.6% based on analysis of data from 3.8 million vaccinated Russians, higher than the data previously published by The Lancet medical journal (91.6%), the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Gamaleya Research Center previously reported.
