The development of multifaceted cooperation with Russia is a priority for Turkmenistan's foreign policy, Chairperson of Turkmenistan's Upper House of the Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Myakhri Byashimova said on Wednesday.

"The comprehensive development of multifaceted relations with the Russian Federation is among the priority vectors of the foreign policy of neutral Turkmenistan," she said, speaking at the roundtable "Inter-parliamentary cooperation between Turkmenistan and Russia: directions and priorities" in Moscow with the participation of the parliamentarians of the two countries.

According to the deputy, Ashgabat conducts its foreign policy based on the principles of positive neutrality, peacefulness, good-neighborly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with other countries. Byashimova drew attention to Turkmenistan's global initiative "Dialogue - a guarantee of peace," aimed at solving international problems by peaceful means. "I would like to note that the Russian Federation firmly and invariably supports our proposals in the international arena," she said. As Byashimova noted, inter-parliamentary ties are now becoming increasingly important in the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Russia.

In turn, Chairperson of the Committee on International and Inter-parliamentary Relations of the Lower House of the Parliament of Turkmenistan Merdan Tuvakov emphasized that thanks to the decisions of the leaders of Turkmenistan and Russia new opportunities are being created to expand and strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

On November 1, Head of the Upper House of the Parliament of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov started his official visit to Russia. During the visit, an agreement on setting up an inter-parliamentary commission on cooperation between the Federation Council and the Upper House of the Parliament of Turkmenistan was signed.
