Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a telephone conversation with the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matviyenko. The discussion, reported by the official newspaper Neytralny Turkmenistan, centered on various aspects of bilateral cooperation.
During the conversation on Wednesday, the parties acknowledged the positive momentum in Turkmenistan-Russia relations across a broad spectrum of areas. Berdimuhamedov highlighted the significance of high-level contacts at the state, governmental, and parliamentary levels as key factors in deepening bilateral interaction. Regular meetings and delegations between the two countries provide opportunities for comprehensive and constructive discussions, addressing crucial issues in strategic interstate partnership.
Both sides expressed the need to enhance trade and economic cooperation and foster collaboration in social and cultural spheres. They underscored the importance of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission, with the next meeting scheduled for early 2024 in Ashgabat. The agenda will cover a wide range of topics related to realizing the potential for cooperation in areas such as the economy, education, and science. The leaders also highlighted the constructive nature of diplomatic and political cooperation, including within the international arena, particularly in the United Nations.
The newspaper reported that Matviyenko assured Russia's unwavering commitment to further deepen the bilateral strategic partnership. The telephone conversation was initiated by the Russian side, emphasizing the ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the two nations.
