Lana Nusseibeh, the United Arab Emirates’ Minister of State, met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference to urge a de-escalation in both Ukraine and the Middle East.
According to a statement from the UAE Foreign Ministry, the meeting covered a range of global security issues. During the exchange, Nusseibeh "emphasized the need to de-escalate tensions and advance political solutions through effective and responsible diplomacy."
The two officials also discussed the deepening partnership between the UAE and the North Atlantic Alliance. Nusseibeh highlighted Abu Dhabi’s long-standing record of engagement with NATO, which includes "not only sustained training cooperation but also the UAE's participation in NATO-led operations across multiple regions."
TASS earlier reported that Geneva prepares to host a round of trilateral peace talks between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine on February 17–18. Sources indicate that negotiators will attempt to finalize a set of "framework principles" for a settlement. This Swiss round follows two previous sessions held in Abu Dhabi earlier this year (January 23–24 and February 4–5).
The Russian delegation in Geneva is led by Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky and includes a team of over 20 specialists. On the American side, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the US president's son-in-law, will represent Washington in the discussions.
