29 July 2021

Uganda is ready to work on simplifying the visa regime for Russian citizens. This was stated on Thursday by the republic's ambassador in Moscow Johnson Agara Olwa at the session "Russian-African partnership: the modern trajectory of economic cooperation" within the framework of the Economic Summit "Russia - Islamic world: KazanSummit 2021".

"Our embassy can make a request for a convenient visa regime for Russian citizens, we can do it ourselves, we can in the bilateral format", said the diplomat.

According to him, the development of ties between the two countries is hindered by the lack of information about each other. "We need to raise awareness. Not so many people know about Russia in terms of economic development cooperation," he said.

The ambassador believes that organizing business missions to Russia and Uganda could help solve the problem. "We want to work with Russian friends, but they should also come to Africa and see for themselves," he stressed.

"Africans are ready to work with Russians, Russian partners in all sectors, spheres. We want Russia to participate in the process of [Africa's] development," the diplomat summarized.

The XII International Economic Summit "Russia - Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021" is held on July 28-30 in Kazan. Representatives of 48 countries and 25 regions of Russia participate in the summit. The summit is aimed at developing cooperation and maintaining a dialogue between Russia and the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the economic, political and cultural spheres.
