UN Peacekeepers Declare Israel's Operation in Lebanon Violates Sovereignty

01 October

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has stated that Israel’s ground operations on Lebanese territory violate the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"Any crossing of Lebanon's border constitutes a violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as a breach of UN Security Council Resolution 1701," said the UNIFIL press office in a statement.

It was also noted that Israel informed UN peacekeepers on September 30 about its intent to launch ground operations in Lebanon. Despite the dangerous situation, the peacekeepers have remained in their positions. "Yesterday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) notified UNIFIL of their intention to carry out a limited ground invasion into Lebanon," the statement confirmed.

UNIFIL has urged both parties to refrain from further actions that could lead to escalation, warning that it would only result in more violence and bloodshed. "We strongly urge all sides to reaffirm their commitment to UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701, as the only viable solution for restoring stability in the region," the statement concluded.

On the night of October 1, the Israeli military announced a limited ground operation in the border areas of southern Lebanon. However, Al Mayadeen reported that there have been no confirmed reports of the Israeli army crossing into Lebanon.
