The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that nearly 500 schools in the Gaza Strip have been shelled and destroyed by Israel amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Out of 564 schools in the region, at least 477 have been affected.

The report indicates that 344 schools were directly hit by shelling, while another 133 were damaged due to fighting in their vicinity. This damage includes 264 public schools, 57 private schools, and 156 schools operated by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

Additionally, OCHA noted that 180 schools serving as temporary shelters for refugees have also been hit since October 2023.

On August 10, the Israeli army reported a targeted airstrike on a "Hamas operational command center" located inside a mosque within the Et Tabiin school complex. The army claimed that the strike, which involved three precision-guided projectiles, resulted in the deaths of 31 members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

According to the civil defense service in Gaza, the recent shelling has resulted in at least 93 deaths, including 11 children and six women.
