UN Security Council to Vote on Russian Middle East Resolution on March 11

11 March

The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to vote on a draft resolution proposed by Russia calling for a cessation of hostilities in the Middle East on Wednesday, after 22:00 Moscow time (15:00 local time in New York), Evgeny Uspensky, the spokesperson for the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, told reporters.

"The vote on the Russian draft resolution for the UN Security Council on the Middle East will take place on March 11 after 15:00. Before this, the council will vote on a document prepared by Bahrain," the diplomat stated.

The Russian document expresses deep concern over the current rise in tensions within the Middle East and beyond, voicing regret over the tragic loss of life resulting from combat operations in the region. It includes a call for all parties to immediately cease the use of force and return to negotiations. Furthermore, the Russian draft emphasizes the need to ensure the protection of civilians and vital civilian infrastructure.

In addition to the Russian proposal, the Security Council is expected to vote on March 11 on a draft resolution sponsored by Bahrain, that condems Iran's actions taken in response to attacks by Israel and the United States.
