UNRWA Highlights Unprecedented Forced Displacement of Palestinians Since 1948

16 January

The military actions in the Gaza Strip have resulted in the most extensive forced displacement of the Palestinian people since 1948, according to a statement from the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

"The war in the Gaza Strip has led to the largest displacement of the Palestinian people since 1948," the agency  highlighted, adding that the Palestinians are living in "uninhabitable conditions". "An entire generation of children has been traumatized, thousands killed, maimed, and orphaned," noted UNRWA as quoted by the WAFA news agency.

This recent forced displacement echoes the historical event of An-Nakba ("Day of Catastrophe") on May 15, 1948, following the declaration of the state of Israel on May 14. An-Nakba marked a mass exodus of Palestinians from their lands.
