US Buildup in Middle East Nearing Completion, Media Reports

29 January

The US military buildup in the Persian Gulf is set to conclude in the coming days, according to administrative sources cited by Axios.

"The current objective is preparation, but it appears as though President [Donald Trump] will make another decision regarding Iran in the near future," a US official told the portal.

As part of Washington's increased regional presence, the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group has already arrived, along with a squadron of F-15 fighter jets and C-17 military transport aircraft.

Previously, Trump stated that a "huge armada" is heading toward Iran. He expressed hope that Tehran would return to the negotiating table to conclude a "fair and equitable" deal centered on the total "renunciation of nuclear weapons." The American leader reminded Tehran that the US struck Iranian nuclear sites last June in an operation known as "Midnight Hammer," warning that "the next attack will be far worse" and urging them "not to let that happen."

Ali Shamkhani, an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, stated that Tehran will view any aggressive action by the US as the start of a full-scale war, and that a response will follow immediately.
