US, PRC, Pakistan and Afghan parties invited to meeting on Afghanistan

Russia has invited the United States, China, Pakistan, representatives of the Afghan government and the Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation) for consultations of the expanded "troika" on the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Afghanistan to Moscow on March 18, Zamir Kabulov, the Russian President's Special Representative for Afghanistan and Director of the Second Asia Department of the Foreign Ministry, told TASS on Tuesday.


"This is not even a conference, these are consultations of the expanded "troika" - Russia, the United States, China, and Pakistan. Yes, we are inviting both representatives of the [Afghan] government and Afghan politicians and a delegation from the Taliban," he said.


On Tuesday, High Council for National Reconciliation spokesperson Freidun Khvazun said that Afghan politicians, including President Ashraf Ghani and High Council for National Reconciliation Chairman Abdullah Abdullah, had received invitations to attend the March 18 meeting in Moscow.
