Uzbekistan Plans to Utilize Afghanistan's Roads for Transit Transportation

Uzbekistan's authorities are aiming to utilize Afghanistan's territory for facilitating road transportation through transit routes, the ministry of transport of Uzbekistan's press service announced.

 

Reportedly, Uzbekistan's Transport Minister Ilhom Mahkamov and Ismatullah Irgashev, the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, visited Afghanistan on August 26-27, during which discussions centered around this matter were held.

 

"In the course of the bilateral discussions, the two sides addressed the establishment of an international transport corridor to facilitate access through Afghanistan and Pakistan to the ports of the Indian Ocean, as well as enhancing collaboration between transportation and logistics entities of both nations," the press service reported.

 

The discussions also addressed matters related to establishing favorable conditions for international road carriers. This includes the consideration of measures to lift restrictions on transit through Afghanistan's territory and facilitate the transportation of goods to various destinations.
