President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has put forward a proposal to establish a visa-free tourist space named "Gulf - Central Asia" for countries in the Central Asia and Persian Gulf regions. The announcement was made during the inaugural summit of leaders from Arab nations and Central Asian states, currently taking place in Saudi Arabia.
The focus of the summit was on exploring opportunities in the tourism sector. President Mirziyoyev suggested the creation of a unified visa-free tourist area called "Gulf - Central Asia," with the aim of promoting tourism between the two regions. The proposal also entails the development of modern clusters and collaborative tour products. Furthermore, a forum of leading tour operators from both regions is planned to be held in the city of Khiva, designated as the tourist capital of the Islamic world for the year 2024.
Alongside tourism, Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of cooperation in addressing global climate change and ecological challenges. He called for the establishment of an international program that encourages joint research initiatives to tackle these issues. To facilitate such endeavors, the Uzbek President proposed the establishment of the University for the Study of Environment and Climate Change in Central Asia.
