Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin met with Bankole Adeoye, the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly to discuss pressing security issues in Africa.

“There was an exchange of views on key issues related to security on the African continent,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The constructive role of the African Union in building the architecture of peace and security in the region was noted, alongside Russia’s significant contribution as a permanent member of the UN Security Council in shaping the international community’s strategic approach and implementing practical measures to strengthen peace and stability in Africa.

The Russian side expressed readiness to continue coordinating efforts with the African Union on security matters, following the principle of “African solutions to African problems,” including within the framework of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum.
