Volodin Meets with Speaker of Somalia’s Federal Senate

03 June

State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin held a meeting with Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, Speaker of the Senate of Somalia’s Federal Parliament, emphasizing the importance of strengthening parliamentary ties between the two nations.

“It’s important to build on the positive experience we already have and do everything we can to expand interparliamentary cooperation and strengthen relations between our peoples and countries,” Volodin said, as quoted on the State Duma’s official website.

Volodin noted that relations between Russia and Somalia have a long-standing history and are grounded in principles of mutual respect, non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, and the rejection of double standards. He added that fostering ties with African and Arab nations remains one of the key priorities of Russia’s foreign policy.

“We hope our dialogue will become systematic,” Volodin added, expressing confidence that Abdi Hashi Abdullahi’s visit would give a fresh boost to Russia–Somalia cooperation.

The State Duma Chairman also welcomed the Somali Senate Speaker’s proposal to intensify parliamentary engagement through friendship group initiatives.
