Volodin Urges Lawmakers to Strengthen Humanitarian Ties Between Russia and Uzbekistan

14 March

Russian and Uzbek lawmakers should work to create legislative conditions that foster humanitarian cooperation between the two nations, said Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin during a meeting with Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis.

“The number of Russian tourists visiting Uzbekistan is growing. Today, one in ten tourists in Uzbekistan is a Russian citizen. This choice is made by people based on economic opportunities, the comfort provided by the host country, and security considerations. That speaks volumes. Last year alone, over 800,000 Russians traveled to Uzbekistan to explore the country, relax, and spend time here,” Volodin stated.

However, he emphasized that certain issues still require discussion and attention. “Our role is to create legislative conditions that strengthen humanitarian ties, address concerns affecting citizens of both countries, and contribute to the development of our bilateral relations,” he added.

Volodin also highlighted the importance of preserving historical memory. “We must acknowledge the efforts of Uzbekistan’s president, who has done everything possible to commemorate this history through the creation of Victory Park,” he said.

He further stressed the necessity of continuous dialogue. “The relationship we are building is a two-way street. Without dialogue, there can be no trust. That’s why maintaining an ongoing discussion is essential,” Volodin concluded.

The State Duma delegation, led by Volodin, is currently on an official visit to Uzbekistan.
