WHO Reports Medicines Cannot Be Delivered to Hospitals in Northern Gaza

08 January

The World Health Organization (WHO) faced setbacks in its humanitarian efforts as security concerns forced the cancellation of its planned mission to Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza, a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) revealed.

"For the fourth time since December 26, 2023, the WHO has canceled a planned mission to Al-Awda Hospital and Central Pharmacy in northern Gaza as we have not received security assurances. During the mission, we intended to deliver urgently needed medicines for five hospitals in the north," the WHO stated.

The organization underscored that the region has been virtually inaccessible for 12 days due to a combination of factors, including "massive bombardment, movement restrictions, and lack of communication." The statement noted that the relentless fighting has made it "almost impossible" to ensure the delivery of medical supplies to hospitals, particularly those in the north.

"Most hospitals are severely understaffed, as health workers have left due to evacuation orders or insecurity, and patients' access to hospitals is difficult due to dangerous conditions," the report further highlighted.
