WSJ: Pentagon Begins Deployment of Combat Aircraft to Middle East

21 January

The US Department of Defense has begun deploying fighter jets to the Middle East as President Donald Trump strengthens the regional military presence. According to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the buildup comes as the administration continues to weigh the option of a strike against Iran.

Sources report that a squadron of F-15E Strike Eagles arrived in Jordan on Sunday. US officials, quoted by the publication, also noted that additional air defense assets, including Patriot and THAAD missile systems, are being deployed into the region. These reinforcements are ostensibly intended to intercept potential retaliatory strikes from Tehran.
