Zakharova Announces Russia's Shipment of Over 140 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Gaza Residents

15 November 2023

Russia has dispatched over 140 tons of humanitarian aid to assist the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, announced Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova during a briefing.

"For our part, we continue to actively participate in humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population. On November 10, EMERCOM planes from Kazan delivered shipments of food and medicine for the residents of the Gaza Strip to Egypt," said the diplomat.

"In total, more than 140 tons of humanitarian goods have already been sent from Russia, which were handed over to representatives of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society for distribution among the residents of the blockaded Palestinian enclave," the diplomat pointed out.

At the same time, Zakharova noted that the scale of the humanitarian disaster is expanding under Israel's tight blockade of the Gaza Strip. "The Gaza Strip is still acutely short of food, medicines, fuel. Due to the ongoing hostilities, the only Rafah border crossing open for the entry of humanitarian cargo on the border with Egypt is still operating with significant restrictions. The humanitarian aid coming through it is not enough to cover the existing needs," added the representative of the Russian diplomatic ministry.
