During a briefing on Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova highlighted the potential of the normalization of relations between Egypt and Turkey to expedite the resolution of the prolonged crisis in Libya.
Zakharova expressed that "the normalization of Egyptian-Turkish relations is expected to have a positive impact on the overall situation in Libya."
She acknowledged that previously, Cairo and Ankara had competed for influence in the region and "had supported opposing factions within Libya."
This competition had contributed to the persistence of a dual power structure within the country. However, Zakharova expressed optimism that the improved relations between Egypt and Turkey would lead to a closer alignment in addressing the challenges of the Libyan settlement. This, in turn, would help bring an end to the protracted crisis in Libya.
