Around 50 young diplomats from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will gather in Kazan for a forum held as part of the 16th International Economic Forum “Russia–Islamic World: KazanForum,” according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
“This event has been held annually in Kazan since 2016,” Zakharova noted during a briefing. “It’s organized by the Council of Young Diplomats under the Russian Foreign Ministry, with support from the Youth Diplomacy Academy and the Government of Tatarstan.”
This year’s forum will center on the theme of “Victory Diplomacy,” marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War. Zakharova said the event will bring together nearly 50 representatives from foreign ministries and experts from over 20 OIC countries to exchange views on cooperation in the context of a changing global order and evolving international security landscape.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is expected to deliver a welcome address to the participants.
On the sidelines of the forum, there will also be a ceremony marking the accession of new members to the International Association of Young Diplomats, officially launched in New York on April 17 during the UN ECOSOC Youth Forum.
The Russia–Islamic World: KazanForum will take place from May 13 to 18. The main theme for the 2025 edition is “Digitalization: A New Reality and Opportunities for Expanded Cooperation.” According to the head of Tatarstan, representatives from over 70 countries have confirmed their participation, including a high-level delegation from Afghanistan.
