Abbas Considers Recent Events in Lebanon to Be Acts of Terrorism

19 September

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has called on Palestinian refugees in Lebanon to donate blood to those injured in the recent explosions across the country. His office issued a statement emphasizing the importance of solidarity in the wake of these tragic events.

Abbas ordered all Palestinian hospitals in Lebanon to be opened and instructed medical teams working in the country, including those from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and refugee camps, to provide assistance to all victims. He urged Palestinians in Lebanon to donate blood to help those affected by the explosions.

The Palestinian President condemned the events as acts of terrorism, warning that “such actions represent a dangerous escalation, posing a threat to the entire international security system.” He also called on the global community to take immediate steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.

On September 17 and 18, Lebanon experienced a series of explosions involving communication devices. On the first day, a large number of pagers exploded almost simultaneously in different parts of the country. According to Lebanon's Ministry of Health, 12 people were killed, including two children, and 2,800 were injured. The following day, additional explosions occurred involving radios, phones, and devices powered by solar panels and lithium-ion batteries. This second wave of attacks resulted in at least 20 deaths and 450 injuries.
