Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is set to arrive in Moscow on May 8 and is expected to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 10, according to Izvestia, citing Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal.
Abbas plans to attend the Victory Day celebrations before engaging in discussions with Putin. Topics on the agenda may include the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Israeli military operations, and the prospects for conflict resolution. The leaders may also address the upcoming June UN Security Council conference focused on the recognition of both Palestine and Israel as sovereign states.
Additional points of discussion could include the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and challenges related to blocked shipments due to Israeli restrictions.
The ambassador emphasized the importance of the upcoming meeting amid the ongoing escalation in the Middle East and growing pressure on the Palestinian people.
Abbas and Putin last met in October 2024 during the BRICS summit in Kazan, where they also discussed the situation in Gaza.
