Afghanistan expects to expand cooperation with Russia, while Kabul and Moscow have not discussed conditions for recognizing the new Afghan government, Amir Khan Muttaqi, Foreign Minister of the interim government of Afghanistan, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"Neither Russia nor we have yet put forward any conditions for recognition, but we have good relations. There is a Russian embassy in Kabul and an Afghan embassy in Moscow, there are no special conditions. We hope that this interaction will continue to develop," Muttaqi said.

In early August 2021, the Taliban* stepped up its attack on the government forces in Afghanistan, entered Kabul on August 15 and the next day declared that the war was over.

On the night of August 31, the US military withdrew from Kabul airport, ending the nearly 20-year US military presence in Afghanistan.

In early September 2021, the interim government of Afghanistan was announced and headed by Mohammad Hasan Akhund, who was responsible for foreign policy during the first Taliban rule* and who has been under UN sanctions since 2001.
