As part of the 57th Cairo International Book Fair — one of the world’s major literary gatherings — a notable event aimed at strengthening cultural dialogue will take place. With the support and direct involvement of the Group of Strategic Vision (GSV) “Russia–Islamic World,” Arab readers will be introduced to two special publications: acclaimed poetic works from Tatar and Chechen literature.
“This is more than a literary event. It is a dialogue between cultures deeply rooted in universal values and spiritual traditions,” said Marat Gatin, Deputy Chairman of the GSV “Russia–Islamic World” and Aide to the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Thanks to the Group’s efforts, the program will feature an Arabic translation of “Su Anasy” (“The Water Sprite”) — a classic poem by prominent Tatar writer Gabdulla Tukay, translated by well-known Egyptian author Ashraf Aboul-Yazid, as well as “In the Shadow of Mother,” a poetry collection by Chechen poet Suleiman-haji Autaev, translated by Egyptian philologist and specialist in Russian studies Mohamed Nasr El-Din Elgebaly.
“The presentation of these works in Cairo is a vivid example of our consistent work to strengthen cultural bridges between Russia and the Arab world,” Gatin noted. “Tukay’s poem introduces readers to a peak of Tatar romanticism, where mythology becomes a way to speak about timeless themes — good and evil, love, and moral choice. And Autaev’s deeply personal lyrics, infused with a son’s love, are sure to resonate with readers for whom family values are sacred. We are opening new pages of a shared cultural heritage.”
The events are scheduled for January 25 and February 1. Literature lovers and supporters of intercultural dialogue are invited to attend this unique presentation.
