Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, in Damascus to discuss prospects for strengthening bilateral relations. The office of the Syrian president reported on the meeting.
"International and regional security issues were discussed during the meeting," the statement noted. It was emphasized that "both sides expressed a desire to strengthen Syrian-Russian relations, which aligns with the interests of the two friendly nations."
Shoigu, who previously served as Russia's Minister of Defense, last visited Damascus on a working trip in February 2022.
