At least 10 people were killed and 32 injured in an explosion in Quetta, the southwestern province of Balochistan, reported the newspaper Dawn citing the regional health department.
Following the incident, medical facilities in Quetta have been placed on high alert, according to the department.
Geo TV, citing security sources, reported that the explosion was carried out by a suicide bomber from the group Fitna al-Khawarij, previously known as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (Pakistan Taliban Movement).
In 2024, the provinces bordering Afghanistan—Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan—accounted for 90% of terrorist attacks in Pakistan. In both regions, various armed groups carry out attacks on Pakistani security forces and civilians under the pretext of defending the rights of ethnic minorities—the Pashtuns and Balochs.
