The ministry of foreign affairs of Azerbaijan expressed its protest to the ambassador of India in the country in connection with the statements of officials of the ruling Indian Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), considered in Muslim countries as insulting to Islam and the Prophet Muhammad.
"On June 9, Indian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Bavitlung Vanlalvanna was summoned to the Ministry of foreign affairs. At the meeting, it was noted that the use of offensive expressions against Islam and the Prophet Muhammad by officials of India's ruling party is unacceptable," the statement said.
According to the press service, it was brought to the attention of the Indian ambassador that "the Islamophobic attitude demonstrated by Indian officials hurts the feelings of all Muslims of the world, and Azerbaijan condemns such behavior".
The foreign ministry of Azerbaijan believes that "such cases harm peaceful coexistence between representatives of different religions". The ministry stressed that they are waiting for the Indian government to take tough measures against these individuals.
Earlier it was reported that a representative of India's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nupur Sharma, speaking on the air of the Indian TV at the TV debates, in the context of some incidents in the country made some statements about Islam and the Prophet Muhammad, which were offensive to Muslims. Later, according to India's NDTV channel, Naveen Jindal, a member of the Indian National Congress party, posted a message on Twitter that also appeared to be unflattering to Muslims. Some time later he deleted it because of a wave of criticism in his address.
