The demand for Russian-language media is on the rise in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) due to the growing interest in and necessity of learning the Russian language in member countries. This observation was made by CIS Secretary-General Sergei Lebedev in his welcoming address to participants of the Second Forum on "Media Development in a Changing World," which was read by Svetlana Malinina, the head of the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
"This year, the Commonwealth of Independent States has declared as the Year of the Russian Language, which continues to be the universal working language for interethnic communication and a vital tool for effective communication in all spheres. As a result of the significant interest and necessity for learning Russian, the demand for Russian-language media is on the rise," he stated.
Lebedev pointed out that the journalistic community in CIS countries is actively addressing this growing demand by involving young people in promoting the Russian language, "utilizing modern technology and communication channels."
"The global crisis of trust in media emphasizes the significance of professionalism, civic responsibility, and journalistic ethics," the CIS secretary-general emphasized.
He also emphasized that in the era of the new digital reality, the role of media in the countries of the organization is particularly significant. Media continues to be the primary channel for conveying reliable information, molding public opinion, and impacting various aspects of human life.
