Cooperation between Russia and Malaysia continues to develop

Within the framework of the economic summit “Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum2024”, guests from foreign countries shared their impressions of the event. The International Economic Forum of Russia and the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was held from May 14 to 19, 2024 in the capital of Tatarstan, Kazan.


First Secretary for Agriculture of the Malaysian Embassy in The Hague (whose competence also includes interaction with Russia and Great Britain), Ms. Una, said that a delegation from her country is participating in the KazanForum for the second time. Last year, representatives of Malaysia managed to visit the forum as part of several delegations. Also the capital of Tatarstan, as part of the economic summit, was visited by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad bin Sabu.


“Two joint events are planned within the framework of the current forum, at which issues of bilateral relations between Russia and Malaysia will be discussed. In addition, at the Russia exhibition Halal Expo presents the pavilion of our country”, - noted Ms. Una.


One of the events was the press conference “Russia – Malaysia: achievements in economic cooperation a year later”. At it, the chairman of the NGO “International Institute for Advanced Study of Islam” Maszli Malik stated that Malaysia is counting on expanding cooperation with the Russian Federation in the tourism industry. The promotion of this initiative can be facilitated by the abolition of the visa regime between states. Mr. Malik named the student exchange program and the expansion of trade in agricultural products between countries as other areas for developing cooperation.


The second event was a press conference on the topic “Muslim friendly: presentation of the project”. Speakers at the meeting included Chairman of the Board of the Halal Development Corporation of Malaysia Khairul Azwan Harun and Chairman of the Halal Standard Committee of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan Abbyas hazrat Shlyaposhnikov. The session participants discussed the development of the modern “Muslim friendly” service, got acquainted with the basic principles and aspects of organizing service, accommodation, food, as well as cultural and excursion programs. Much attention was paid to the tourism industry.


“We believe that the Kazan Economic Forum is the best opportunity for us to enter new markets in Russia, as well as offer Malaysia products or services from Russia”, - said the First Secretary for Agriculture of the Malaysian Embassy in The Hague.


Discussing the impact of sanctions imposed by the West against Russia on cooperation between Russia and Malaysia, Ms. Una noted some emerging difficulties. However, according to the diplomat, business relations between Russia and Malaysia continue to develop in a positive way.
