Coup Attempt in Benin Fully Quelled

08 December

A coup attempt in Benin has been thwarted, President Patrice Talon announced in a national address broadcast on state television.

“A small group of soldiers staged a mutiny, which has been suppressed by our armed forces,” Talon said. “All pockets of the coup have been cleared. This act of betrayal will not go unpunished.”

The president stressed that the government maintains full control across the entire country. “The situation is completely under control,” he assured. “Security and public order will be upheld everywhere.”

Talon added that citizens can safely go about their daily lives.
