The foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states have reaffirmed their commitment to assisting Afghanistan in becoming a peaceful and stable country, as well as their readiness to participate in international development efforts. This was stated in a joint declaration regarding the UN Regional Centre for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan.

“We reaffirm our intention to support Afghanistan in becoming a peaceful and stable country, and our readiness to take part in international efforts for its development under the central coordinating role of the United Nations,” the document reads. “We call on the international community to increase humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.”

The ministers also emphasized that the establishment of the UN Regional Centre for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan will help strengthen cooperation aimed at promoting peaceful dialogue across the Eurasian region.

“We are confident that the Regional Centre, operating within its mandate, will contribute to the coordinated implementation of the Programme of Action for the Landlocked Developing Countries,” the statement noted.

“We underscore the importance of the UN development system reform initiated by the UN Secretary-General, which is aimed at enhancing support to member states in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. We confirm our willingness to jointly utilize the potential of the Regional Centre in pursuit of these objectives,” the ministers concluded.
