CSTO Secretary-General: The Organization Effectively Handles Threats in Difficult Conditions

25 December 2024

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) plays a vital role in maintaining stability in Eurasia and has been effectively addressing current challenges in complex geopolitical conditions, CSTO Secretary-General Imangali Tasmagambetov told in an article, published in National Security magazine.

In the article, Tasmagambetov emphasized the CSTO's adaptability and its importance as a stabilizing force in Eurasia, particularly in creating a secure space for collective security. “In the evolving conditions, the CSTO, demonstrating a significant potential for adaptability, remains a key factor in preserving stability in Eurasia and shaping a security space,” he stated. He also noted that the organization is continuously improving its response mechanisms and successfully addressing emerging security threats, which increasingly take on a hybrid nature.

The secretary-general highlighted the importance of creating an adequate system for ensuring global and regional security, noting that one of the tools for peaceful conflict resolution is the CSTO. Despite the growing complexity of the international situation, the CSTO continues to perform its functions effectively, demonstrating great potential for further development and adaptation in light of global geopolitical shifts and the hybrid nature of contemporary conflicts.

Tasmagambetov also stressed the significance of joint efforts by national governments to neutralize internal and external security threats to CSTO member states. He pointed out the increasing consolidation of the Global South as a positive factor in the process of establishing a multipolar world order, which is accompanied by rapid transformations in the military-political situation in Eurasia. In this context, “middle powers,” which are gaining international influence through mediation, are playing an increasingly important role in regional processes.
